September is Basic Education and Literacy Month. Our Port Orchard Rotary group has been very active in encouraging Literacy. Let me share some of these with you.
We have John Carlson and his wife, Ruth that started a summer class teaching English and Spanish to families that would like to know more about the language. Rotarians volunteered to help in the classroom as well. Bob Cairns, with the help of Jon Gailey and their wife’s collect thousands of books to send Internationally. Mark and RoseMarie Timmerman joined in to make sure kids had school supplies on the first day of school. The Principal’s and educators in our club are working hard to make sure our kids are getting the best education they can possibly have. This last year, we gave thousands of dollars towards Scholarships.
There are so many things are group is doing to educate our students as well as ourselves. Rotary gives us the opportunity to learn, to go outside of the box or comfort zone, to better ourselves and others.
Keep learning...

Discovery high school students release 70,000 chum salmon fry into Karcher Creek
Our club in conjunction with the Discovery high school kids released 35,000 chum salmon fry into Beaver Creek on Monday 4 March.    I met the students at our Karcher Creek hatchery at 1:30pm.  IWe were at the main gate Fuel Depot between 2 - 2:15pm.  We released an additional 35,000 chum fry into Beaver Creek on Tuesday 5 March.  This release was not on the Fuel Depot, but on a private farm further up the road.

Sunday, August 4th , we will be having an Alumni bbq. Place will be determined soon. Let’s say our group brings a pot luck, and we will treat our Alumni’s. If you know past member, please ask them and let me know.
August 9th is our golf tournament to raise funds for Girls and Boys club. Pick your team, as well, as go out and get pledges for how many holes you will or think you will do.
District Governor had to make some changes. We were getting a lot of interest. We moved the day to November 12th, at 530pm at Bremerton Conference Center.
I wont be attending Tuesday meeting. But next week, I will be sending a clipboard around for Installation dinner. Or you can reach me thru email or text.
Have a great week. See you next week.
